9.04 kWh home battery with backup power, single-phase

This is Sigenergy's entry-level system with backup power added. You get a Sigen Energy Controller of 6 kW, one battery module of 9.04 kWh and the Power Sensor, plus the Sigen Energy Gateway HomePro SP. That gateway is the part that makes the difference.

Without a gateway, a SigenStor has no backup power. The battery still charges and discharges, but during a power cut nothing switches over and you're in the dark just like the neighbours. The gateway sits between the meter cupboard and the rest of your installation and disconnects your home from the grid the moment it drops out.

How much you can use during an outage

Note the difference between two figures. The gateway itself can handle 12 kW, but what actually comes out of your sockets is limited by the controller and the battery: 4.6 kW continuous. That's enough for lighting, the fridge, the freezer, wifi and a central heating boiler. An induction hob at full power or a heat pump just starting up won't manage.

The datasheet states zero milliseconds of interruption on the load side, provided the gateway is installed together with the controller and the battery. In practice you only notice an outage from a notification on your phone.

When this isn't the right choice

If you live in an area where the grid practically never fails and you don't have equipment that truly can't go without power, you're paying 650 euros extra with this package for something you'll rarely use. The standard 9.04 kWh package does the same job in terms of savings. If you do have a reason, think of medical equipment, an aquarium or working from home that can't stop, this is exactly what the gateway is for.

What the installation involves

Backup power requires more work in the meter cupboard than a regular battery. The circuits that need to keep running get connected behind the gateway, the rest doesn't. We charge 500 euros for that on top of the normal installation package. Which circuits those are is decided together with the installer, and that's a conversation better had beforehand than afterwards.
