Business charger installation
Why business is different
One charger at a home is a straightforward job. Four chargers in a car park is an installation challenge. It is no longer about the charger but about your connection: what happens if all the cars plug in at once, how much power is left for the rest of the building, and how do you divide it. That is why we always work here with a site survey and a quote, not a fixed package.
What plays a role in such a project
Dynamic load balancing across multiple chargers is the core of it. The system measures what the building is using and divides what is left among the cars that are charging. Without it you would have to upgrade your connection, and that is almost always the most expensive solution.
Administration also plays a role. If you want to recharge charging sessions to employees, a leasing company or visitors, you need a charger with MID-certified metering, because only that measurement is legally usable for billing. Access control with a card or app usually goes along with that, so not everyone can simply start charging.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How many chargers now and in three years? | determines whether you reserve cable and space for expansion now |
| What is your contracted power? | determines whether load balancing is enough or an upgrade is needed |
| Does it need to be recharged to someone? | determines whether MID metering is mandatory |
| Who is allowed to charge? | determines the access control and management platform |
| Is there already cable to the car park? | excavation work is often the biggest item in the budget |
Excavation is usually the biggest cost
That surprises people, but the cable to the car park and restoring the paving often cost more than the chargers themselves. So lay enough cable and spare ducting in one go for the number of chargers you expect in a few years. Digging it up a second time is more expensive than laying it wider from the start.
What we do and what your installer does
We supply the chargers, the management and the accessories, and think along about the setup and the number needed. For larger business projects we leave the installation itself to an installer, for the same reason as with commercial storage: connection, inspection and the grid operator are local work. For one or two chargers on a business facade, we can often carry it out as a fixed service, which follows from the site survey.
What we take care of
Site survey, advice on number and power, a quote with the complete setup, and delivery of chargers and management. Here too: 21% VAT, no zero rate, and additional work only after a signed work order. Take a look at the range under EV chargers. For a single charger at a home, see home charger installation.
Frequently asked questions
How many chargers can my connection handle?
With dynamic load balancing, often more than you think, because it is rare for all cars to charge at full power at the same time. The exact number follows from your contracted power and your daytime consumption pattern.
When do I need MID metering?
As soon as you recharge charging sessions to someone else. For your own use without billing it is not mandatory, but it is useful for your administration.
Can I combine chargers with a battery?
Yes, and with heavy charging peaks that is often the cheaper route compared to upgrading your connection. The battery absorbs the peak. See commercial energy storage.
Do you also handle management and billing?
We supply the chargers and the platform that goes with them. Which management platform fits depends on your brand and how you want to bill, we discuss that at the site survey.
Do I get one quote for chargers and installation?
Yes. The site survey results in one proposal with the chargers, the management and the installation work, so you do not end up with separate budgets that do not line up.
